Mission Statement
Mission:

The Real-Time PSIG (RTSIG) will work within the OMG to augment existing OMG cross-domain technologies for the requirements of real-time and/or embedded systems, and to promote CORBA and other OMG technologies in the real-time and embedded system market places.

Scope:

The emphasis of this Platform Special Interest Group will be on real-time and embedded systems. Because many real-time and embedded systems are also high performance, safety critical, and/or have fault tolerance requirements, the RTSIG will also address issues related to these requirements.

Structure:

Key Interfaces within OMG. Members of the RTSIG will work within these groups to promote support for real-time and embedded systems issues. The following have been identified:

- - Middleware and Related Services Platform Task Force

- - Analysis and Design Task Force (UML)

- - Telecommunications Domain Task Force (Streams)

- - Liaison Subcommittee (liaison with real-time standards group)

- - Security SIG (Security issues for real-time)

- - Benchmarking SIG (Benchmarking)

- - CORBAMed DTF (Temporal Reasoning)

Customer interfaces: Other groups within OMG will provide domain-focused requirements, scenarios, and review via technical interchanges or joint meetings as needed. The following have been identified:

- Telecommunications DTF - Manufacturing DTF
- CORBAMed DTF - Life Sciences DTF
- Financial Services DTF - Electronic Commerce DTF
- Transportation DTF  - Utilities DSIG
- C4I SIG - Distributed Simulation SIG
- Super Distributed Objects DSIG - Space Communications DTF

Goals:

To draft an RFI, and develop a roadmap and terminology definitions, for use by the appropriate OMG working groups (completed).

To gather real-time requirements from industry to be used in requesting and evaluating technology.(completed).

To involve additional real-time vendors in OMG. (completed)

To work within existing OMG Task Forces to issue one or more RFPs and recommend the adoption of technologies (ongoing)

To promote the use of OMG technologies as effective solutions for real-time systems (ongoing).

To work within the OMG to ensure that the OMG specifications permit and encourage the development of real-time ORBS (ongoing)

To provide a real-time focal point for OMG Domain Task Forces (ongoing)

To facilitate technical exchange between relevant OMG working groups (ongoing).
