Issue 16582: No XML-Schema for UML-XMI (mof2xmi-rtf) Source: Software Systems Engineering (Mr. Holger Eichelberger, eichelberger(at)sse.uni-hildesheim.de) Nature: Enhancement Severity: Significant Summary: While for older versions of XML the concrete syntax for persisting UML models was given in DTD, for newer versions of XMI a related concrete syntax specification e.g. as XML Schema is missing (even if the syntax is described in ptc/2010-12-06). Pure syntax compliance tests for given XMI files cannot be performed. Resolution: Revised Text: Actions taken: October 5, 2011: received issue October 21, 2013: transferred to XMI 2.5 RTF October 20, 2014: deferred Discussion: This issue was transferred from the UML FTF with the mandate “The XMI RTF is encouraged either to delete or deprecate the XSD generation rules from its specification, or to improve them so they meet the expectations of customers that schema validation corresponds to syntactic correctness.” The XMI RTF believes that more time is needed to reach a satisfying conclusion. It.s not realistic for the XMI spec to include a normative XSD for each of the many metamodels (and profiles) that use XMI: not only due to the volume but also the different publishing timelines. The XMI spec does include an XSD for the generic parts of XMI.
