The immediate answer to your question is that the index entry is invalid since the SynchState concept was eliminated from UML as of version 2.0. However, the index entry for it was somehow retained (most likely in some hidden text left over from UML 1.5). Unfortunately, although I was involved in the drafting of the 2.0 version of UML, I do not recall the rationale for eliminating the concept. (Eran, do you recall by chance?)
