Issue 566: OMG IDL prefix pragma (orb_revision) Source: (, ) Nature: Uncategorized Severity: Summary: Summary: All standard OMG IDL including the CORE and all services have implicit #pragma prefix "omg.org". Make sure this appears intext of ALL IDL that is specified, particular in CORBAServices Resolution: closed issue Revised Text: Fixed by IOP 1.1 Actions taken: May 22, 1997: received issue June 20, 1997: closed issue Discussion: End of Annotations:===== Return-Path: Sender: "Jeff Mischkinsky" Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 13:11:41 -0700 From: Jeff Mischkinsky Organization: Visigenic Software To: orb_revision@omg.org Subject: OMG IDL prefix pragma The issue has come up here WRT the specification of the pragma prefix string for OMG defined standard IDL. My impression is that it says somewhere that all standard omg IDL, including the CORE and all the Services have an implicit #pragma prefix "org.omg" It would be helpful to make sure that this appears in the text of ALL the IDL that is specified, particularly in CORBAServices. agree?, disagree? jeff -- Jeff Mischkinsky email: jeffm@visigenic.com Senior Software Architect voice: +1(415)312-5158 Visigenic Software, Inc. fax: +1(415)286-2475 951 Mariner's Island Blvd. Suite 460 web: http://www.visigenic.com San Mateo, CA 94404 Return-Path: Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 14:05:17 -0700 From: Jeff.Nisewanger@Eng.Sun.COM (Jeff Nisewanger) To: orb_revision@omg.org, jeffm@visigenic.com Subject: Re: OMG IDL prefix pragma X-Sun-Charset: US-ASCII > The issue has come up here WRT the specification of the pragma prefix > string for OMG defined standard IDL. > > My impression is that it says somewhere that all standard omg IDL, > including the CORE and all the Services have an implicit > #pragma prefix "org.omg" > > It would be helpful to make sure that this appears in the text of ALL > the IDL that is specified, particularly in CORBAServices. > > > agree?, disagree? > jeff That was certainly my understanding. My proposal is that we approve the Final Report with "omg.org". We'll have a chance to correct errors after the OMG editor has merged the Core RTF changes into the CORBA specification, and we can fix it then if that's the right thing to do. So, which should it be? I don't know of any place in the IDL-to-Java mapping submission that mentions any #pragma prefix so I don't know what the discrepancy could be. As far as I know there isn't any problem. I believe the correct answer for the standard OMG repository prefix is "omg.org". BTW we've been getting quite a few "interoperability is broken" issues from folks trying to use our stuff with others. Vendors should note that the prefix applies to the CORBAServices - naming, events, etc. as well as core ORB stuff. visi-jeff -- Jeff Mischkinsky jmischki@dcn.davis.ca.us +1 916-758-9850 jeffm@visigenic.com +1 415-312-5158
