Issue 5948: Navigating metalevels/instance relationships (mu2i-ftf) Source: Queensland University of Technology (Mr. James Steel, james.steel(at)qut.edu.au) Nature: Uncategorized Issue Severity: Summary: Hi, this question from Mike Lawley @ DSTC (I have CC'd him), > > How does one navigate metalevels in MOF2? "Object" has the operation > "getMetaClass(): Class", but how can I explicitly model (via > a reference/ > association) that MyObj is an instance of MyClass. > > Note, I can see exactly how to do this in CMOF for Links -- > there is an "instance" association between Link and > Association in Fig 8-8. > > Incidentally, is this list the right forum for questions > about the submission, or should it be addressed to a mof-rtf > list or similar? Resolution: Revised Text: Create a derived property /metaclass[1] on CMOF:Element. Derivation is defined as follows: getMetaClass(). Revised Text: Figure 9.1: add attribute compartment to Element with single property /metaclass: Class Section 9.1 under Properties replace “No additional properties” with: /metaclass: Class Returns the Class that described this element. This is a derived property provided for convenience and consistency. Section 9.1 under Constraints replace ‘No Additional constraints’ with: [1] self.metaClass = self.getMetaClass() Actions taken: June 10, 2003: received issue April 25, 2011: closed issue Discussion: At the moment getMetaClass() is the only capability. Figure 8-8 is for CMOF Abstract Semantics only so cannot be used by implementations. It is not reasonable to expect the class to be updated when creating elements so there should not be a property owned by Class End of Annotations:===== Subject: RE: [mof2] Navigating metalevels/instance relationships Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2003 05:40:56 +0100 X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: Thread-Topic: [mof2] Navigating metalevels/instance relationships Thread-Index: AcMvInGL+f/vz+YpRhCiuVP32yl0CABaB/tg From: "Pete Rivett" To: "Jim Steel" Cc: "Dr. Michael Lawley" , , X-MIME-Autoconverted: from quoted-printable to 8bit by amethyst.omg.org id h5C4fAA4001041 Hi Jim, This is an inconsistency in the Spec. I'm guessing you/Mike would like a property as opposed to the operation to get from Object to Class: as a matter of interest what do you see as the need for this? The FTF was chartered last week in Paris (in fact it's a joint FTF for MOF 2 Core and UML 2 Infrastructure). Myself and Barbara Price from IBM are co-chairs. I must confess I cannot remember the DSTC representation - I suspect it was Keith. There will be an FTF mailing list set up shortly which you should use instead of the yahoo group; or you can just email issues@omg.org to raise issues which Juergen will assign a number to and forward to the mailing list.
