Issue 603: COBOL Typedefs NOT universally available (cobol-rtf) Source: (, ) Nature: Uncategorized Severity: Summary: Summary: COBOL typedefs have not been standardized or are universally available. An easy-to-use alternative to proposed alternative of using COBOL COPY books needs to be found Resolution: resolved, close dissue Revised Text: Actions taken: July 11, 1997: received issue February 25, 1999: closed issue Discussion: End of Annotations:===== Return-Path: From: Dave Gamble To: "'cobol-rtf@omg.org'" Subject: COBOL Revision Task Force Date: Fri, 11 Jul 1997 12:25:40 +0100 Encoding: 93 TEXT ISSUE 2 - COBOL Typedefs NOT universally available The current mapping very strongly leans upon the usage of COBOL typedefs. COBOL typedefs have not yet been standardized, nor are they universally available. While the mapping does recognize that COBOL typedefs are not universally available, the proposed alternative (using COBOL COPY books) yields us a very un-friendly, inefficient, and overly complex solution. An alternative that is easy for users to use, familiar within the context of of currently available practice and syntax, and universally deployable, needs to be found. Summary -------------- Please feel free to add more issues or suggest changes to the current issues. I'll collect everything and keep a list of current issues. At some stage soon, I'll also put out a wider poll for any other issues to the other OMG lists.
