Issue 6449: Diagram Taxonomy corrections (uml2-superstructure-ftf) Source: Pivot Point (Mr. Cris Kobryn, ) Nature: Uncategorized Issue Severity: Summary: Description: The diagram taxonomy should be corrected as follows: a) "Collaboration Diagram" as a subtype of "Interaction Diagram" should be renamed "Communication Diagram"; b) "Collaboration Diagram" should be added as a subtype of "Composite Structure Diagram"; c) "Interaction Diagram" should be classified as a subtype of "Sequence Diagram" and "Activity Diagram" Resolution: Revised Text: Actions taken: November 6, 2003: received issue March 9, 2005: closed issue Discussion: Item (a) is a duplicate of issue 6066 (already resolved). For item (b) all the various kinds of composite structure diagrams are deemed to be the same kind of diagram type, whether they represent collaborations or internal class structures. For item (c), the submitter probably meant “Interaction Overview Diagram” instead of “Interaction Diagram”. However, while there are some shared syntactical elements between activity diagrams and communication overview diagrams (such as the fork and join notations), the semantics of these are not the same. So, it is not correct to show them as subtypes of Activity Diagrams.
