Issue 7257: Introduce a 'Nesting Guide' (uml2di-ftf) Source: Gentleware AG (Dr. Marko Boger, marko.boger@gentleware.com marketing@gentleware.com) Nature: Uncategorized Issue Severity: Summary: Introduce a 'Nesting Guide' to specify the contained-container hierarchies of the diagram elements to represents all model elements of the semantic model Explanation: The semantic model elements are typically represented by a hierarchy of nested diagram elements which have a container-contained relationship. To specify which hierarchy of diagram elements is needed to model a special represenation of a model element we need a nesting guide which describes the hierachies for all model elements. This nesting guide should be an appendix to the diagram interchange specification and is added as an appendix to this document. Gentleware will provide a nesting guide that refers to the UML 1.4 metamodel. As soon as the super- and infrastructure of the UML 2.0 is finally adopted a nesting guide for UML 2.0 should be created. Resolution: Revised Text: Actions taken: April 16, 2004: received issue November 1, 2005: closed issue Discussion: Add the 'Nesting Guide' as Appendix C to the specification. (The 'Nesting Guide' is contained on the following pages.) So the name of the role of the SemanticModelBridge has been 'namespace'. But state diagrams and activity diagrams belong to a state machine. So the name 'owner' fits better in this context. ================================= Jürgen Boldt Director, Member Services Object Management Group 250 First Avenue, Suite 100 Needham, MA 02494 Tel. +1 781 444 0404 ext. 132 Fax: +1 781 444 0320 email: juergen@omg.org www www.omg.org Subject: RE: Please vote now on Ballot 1 of the DI FTF Date: Sat, 22 May 2004 10:10:42 -0400 X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: Thread-Topic: Please vote now on Ballot 1 of the DI FTF Thread-Index: AcQ/IX8K4698avPeQBe2wO9ei5cxQQA4y2AQ From: "Pete Rivett" To: "Marko Boger" , Adaptive votes YES to all the resolutions except 7257 (Nesting Guide) to which it votes NO. This is for the reasons I've outlined in my previous email: mainly because it is UML 1.4 only and there seems no point adopting it at this stage: P&P actually disallows re-voting on an an adopted resolution s it will require some procedural contortions to adopt a revision based on UML 2.0. Also, as I said earlier, I think there has been insufficient justification for such a significant addition which in effect is changing the scope of the specification. And the form in which the rules are expressed makes them hard to review. I think we need a proper discussion about this by telecon or at the Orlando meeting if enough people are there.
