2009, Dr. Robert
Kolodner
transitioned from
the federal to the
private sector to
continue his work
to improve the
health and
well-being of
individuals and
communities
worldwide by
advancing the
proliferation and
rapid,
collaborative
evolution of
health information
technology (IT)
tools and
solutions.
Upon leaving
the federal
sector, Robert M.
Kolodner, MD,
co-founded and
became President
of Collaborative
Transformations,
LLC, where he
consults with
organizations
regarding their
health IT
strategies and
plans.
Additionally in
October 2009, Dr.
Kolodner was hired
as Chief Health
Informatics
Officer for the
non-profit
organization Open
Health Tools, Inc.
(OHT). His plans
in the private
sector build on
his prior track
record of success
in two large
federal
Departments.
From 2006 to
April 2009, Robert
M. Kolodner MD
served as the
President's
designated lead
for the United
States eHealth
initiative as the
National
Coordinator for
Health Information
Technology (IT) in
Office of the
Secretary of the
U.S. Department of
Health and Human
Services (HHS).
His
responsibilities
included
developing,
maintaining, and
directing the
implementation of
a health IT
strategic plan as
well as directing
related national
activities that
were necessary to
advance the
nationwide
adoption of
person-centered,
interoperable
health IT
solutions.
For over 28
years prior to
transferring to
HHS, Dr. Kolodner
had been the key
clinical champion
in the U.S.
Department of
Veterans Affairs
(VA) providing
vision, direction,
and effective
leadership for the
development and
pervasive use of
VA's award-winning
suite of health IT
solutions, ,
including My
HealtheVet, a
Personal Health
Record for
veterans, and
VistA - the
world's first
successful
large-scale
Electronic Health
Record
implementation.
His VA activities
also included
research and
teaching, with
clinical faculty
appointments at
Emory University,
University of
Texas Southwestern
Medical Center,
and the University
of Maryland.
Dr. Kolodner
received his
undergraduate
degree from
Harvard College,
his medical degree
from Yale
University School
of Medicine, and
completed his
Psychiatric
residency at the
Washington
University School
of Medicine. Dr.
Kolodner has
medical specialty
board
certification in
psychiatry and is
a Fellow in the
American College
of Medical
Informatics.

Ronald Schmelzer,
Managing Partner,
ZapThink
Ronald Schmelzer, Managing Partner at
ZapThink, is a well-known expert in the field of
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Web
Services, and XML-based standards. Ron has been
featured in and has written for periodicals, and
has spoken at numerous industry conferences and
in front of some of the largest busineses in the
world.Ron Schmelzer was the lead author of XML
And Web Services Unleashed (SAMS 2002) as well
as co-author of Service-Orient or Be Doomed
(Wiley 2006) with Jason Bloomberg, due to be
released in 2006. Ron has served as the chair of
the RosettaNet Cluster 1 Workgroup, working
group member of CPExchange, member of the UDDI
advisory group, and was a member of the CompTIA
Electronic Commerce Standards Board (ECSB).
Prior to ZapThink, Ron was founder, CTO, and “ePostle
of Partners” of ChannelWave Software, as well
as founder and President of VirtuFlex Software,
and founder and CEO of VirtuMall, one of the
first online eCommerce sites in 1994.

Richard Soley, PhD, Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer,
OMGAs Chairman and CEO, Dr. Soley is responsible for the
vision and direction of the world's largest consortium
of its type. Dr. Soley joined the nascent OMG as
Technical Director in 1989, leading the development of
OMG's world-leading standardization process and the
original CORBA®
specification. In 1996, he led the effort to move into
vertical market standards (starting with healthcare,
finance, telecommunications and manufacturing) and
modeling, leading first to the
Unified Modeling Language
(UML®) and later the
Model Driven Architecture (MDA®).
Previously, Dr. Soley was a cofounder and former
Chairman/CEO of A. I. Architects, Inc., maker of the 386
HummingBoard and other PC and workstation hardware and
software. Prior to that, he consulted for various
technology companies and venture firms on matters
pertaining to software investment opportunities.
Dr. Soley has also consulted
for IBM, Motorola, PictureTel, Texas Instruments, Gold
Hill Computer and others. He began his professional life
at Honeywell Computer Systems working on the Multics
operating system.
A native of
Baltimore,
Maryland, U.S.A.,
Dr. Soley holds the bachelor's, master's and doctoral
degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the
Massachusetts Institute of
Technology.
