Real-time and embedded systems such as those found in medical equipment, military and emergency response applications and other high availability systems have unique resource, reliability, and timing requirements that present a challenge for software standards. Middleware standards in particular have to cope with performance and reliability variations of the underlying infrastructure.

Following the success of past real-time and embedded workshops, OMG is hosting this workshop as a forum for standards users, researchers and implementers to share their experiences. Presentations and roundtable discussions at the workshop will also help shape the future of OMG standards.

Tutorial Topics Include:

  • Real-time Data Distribution Service (DDS)
  • Introduction to OMG Systems Modeling Language (SysML™)
  • Using the Lightweight CORBA Component Model to Develop Distributed Real-time and Embedded Application
  • Advanced DDS
  • UML Profile for Modeling and Analysis of Real-time and Embedded Systems (MARTE)
  • Complex Event Processing

Presentation Sessions:

  • Dependability and Resilience in Distributed Middleware
  • Managing the Deployment of Real-time Applications
  • Next-generation Real-time Communication Protocols
  • Complex Event Processing
  • Performance and Benchmarking
  • Model-driven Development

Presentations by Experts from:

Artisan Software Tools, Inc., CEA LIST, Cornell University, Ericsson AB, Kennedy Carter Ltd., MITRE, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Object Security LLC, Objective Interface Systems, OMG, PrismTech, Real-Time Innovations, Inc., Saab Systems, Southern Methodist University, Sparx Systems, THALES, TIBCO Software, UK Ministry of Defence, Universidad de Cantabria, Universita di Napoli, University of Granada, Vanderbilt University, and Virginia Tech

About the Object Management Group
OMG is an international, open membership, not-for-profit computer industry consortium. OMG Task Forces develop enterprise integration standards for a wide range of technologies, including: Real-time, Embedded and Specialized Systems, Analysis & Design, Architecture-Driven Modernization and Middleware and an even wider range of industries, including: Business Modeling and Integration, C4I, Finance, Government, Healthcare, Legal Compliance, Life Sciences Research, Manufacturing Technology, Robotics, Software-Based Communications and Space.

OMG's modeling standards, including the Unified Modeling Language™ (UML®) and Model Driven Architecture® (MDA®), enable powerful visual design, execution and maintenance of software and other processes, including IT Systems Modeling and Business Process Management. OMG's middleware standards and profiles are based on the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA®) and support a wide variety of industries.

More information about OMG can be found at www.omg.org. OMG is headquartered in Needham, MA, USA.
