OMG Model Driven Architecture (MDA) standards for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Business Process Management (BPM) will be shown in support of Federal Enterprise, Segment and Solution Architecture best practices, to achieve competitive sourcing in Federal Line of Business initiatives.

The legacy systems challenge includes inconceivable architectures, rampant redundancy and obsolete functionality - intermixed with mission critical code. The government must address these issues to conform to new legislation, shifting requirements, mandated architectures and loss of subject matter expertise. This session discusses how modernization can address these issues and how OMG standards play a role in these efforts.

Business modeling is becoming increasingly popular. Business models are useful for understanding how a business is organized, who interacts with whom, what goals and strategies are being pursued, what work is performed, and how the work is performed In this session you will learn what a business model is, and how models can be used. The four business modeling disciplines will be reviewed, each concerning a different dimension of an enterprise: business motivation modeling, business interaction modeling, business process modeling, and business rules modeling. In the session the disciplines are explained, their purpose detailed, and the state of the standards efforts for each is described. Examples and case studies will be presented to illustrate how business modeling is used to achieve business goals.

The MDA approach and success factors to more effective government using business focused service oriented architectures and model based acquisition. This serves to provide line-of-site from enterprise architecture and business analysis to solutions matched to agency goals in accordance with the president’s management agenda. We will show how the OMG standards provide a way to integrate architectures across segments, providing for enterprise effectiveness in a federated environment.
