Deltacloud -- Many Clouds,
One API
Building applications in the cloud is a hot
topic today, adapting those
applications to different clouds will be a burning issue
in the future.
Deltacloud takes the heat off that by providing a cloud
agnostic API
geared towards long-term stability and backwards
compatibility.
Deltacloud consists of a public REST API, and a
growing number of
drivers that talk to cloud implementations like Amazon
EC2, Rackspace
and RHEV-M. Built on top of the Deltacloud API is the
Deltacloud Portal,
a service that aggregates information from different
clouds, eases
cross-cloud tasks like image management, and presents all
that in one
seamless view.
This talk will explain the usage of the Deltacloud
API, how to write new
drivers, and what additions are planned to the existing
API. It will
also highlight Deltacloud Portal as a specific example of
an application
built on the Deltacloud API.

Case Study -
Cloud from Practical Perspective
Enterprises are being forced to find alternative
approaches to achieve their goals and manage within their
budgets. As enterprises yearn to become more agile and scale
“on demand,” they are looking to finally realize the
promises that Cloud and utility computing have to offer.
In the last few years, Exadel has been engaged in a
number of projects to assist enterprises in building and
deploying applications in the Cloud using open source and
Exadel’s professional services. Companies that embrace
open source in the Cloud will be better able to right-size,
keep essential projects alive, and pursue innovations that
will give them a competitive advantage, particularly as
general conditions in the economy improve. Removing
proprietary vendor lock-in and instituting a pay-per-use
approach using mature software based on open standards can
provide considerable financial savings.
In this presentation, Exadel will share their
in-the-trenches practical experience in cloud implementation
and give advice on when it makes sense and when it doesn't
(technically as well as financially).
