OMG TECHNICAL MEETING
SPECIAL EVENT
Healthcare Interoperability: 'Focus on SOA and
Modeling' Workshop and Information Day
Wednesday,
June 20, 2012, Cambridge, MA
Hosted by:
OMG's Healthcare Domain Task Force
Sponsored by the OMG Healthcare Domain Task Force, the
OMG is pleased to announce the Healthcare Interoperability: 'Focus on
SOA and Modeling' Workshop and Information Day. The purpose of the
one-day forum will be to present relevant case studies, explore
available and emerging standards, and interact with peers from other
organizations applying modeling- and SOA-based approaches to health
interoperability. The workshop is primarily focused on a
healthcare-interested audience, but much of the content presented has
applicability into other vertical domains. The sessions will explore
how these fundamental building blocks have been constructed and
present use-cases on how they can be leveraged. Case studies and
examples of open-source implementation will also be included.
Presentation content includes overviews of OMG work
such as the Common Terminology Service Release 2 (CTS2), which
provides the ability to manage, maintain, and navigate structured
terminologies, vocabulary, and ontology in a SOA environment; the
Model-Driven Message Interoperability (MDMI) specification focused in
formation transfer and transformation, the [US] National Information
Exchange Model, and the UPDM specification focused on modeling
Enterprise Architecture.
Anyone with interest in these topics is encouraged to
attend, and a specific interest in Healthcare is not required.

PRESENTATION - Solving the Curly Braces Problem: Applying
Standards in Real Life
|
| |
Dr. Clayton Curtis, M.D., PhD
Women's Health Center, VA Boston Healthcare System
Health Informatics and VHA-IHS Liaison for Health IT Sharing
Veterans Health Administration, Office of Informatics and
Analytics |
|
This session will cover an initiative by the Veterans
Health Administration (VHA) to design, implement, and evaluate
an approach to Clinical Decision Support (CDS) that supported
real-life use cases through the coordination of multiple CDS
standards. The presentation will focus on the motivation for
the effort - to demonstrate that it was possible and viable to
leverage existing industry standards to bring off-the-shelf
capabilities to bear into a large government-developed
clinical software application - and how those standards were
effectively leveraged in unison. Attendees should come away
with a practical understanding of relevant CDS standards,
issues involved in their use, and current efforts to develop a
unifying framework for the application of CDS standards to
meet business needs.

hData
and the Simplified Health Information Exchange Landscape

 |
Abstract: hData continues to have significant impact in the
landscape for simplified health information exchange. Since
its inception in 2009, hData has charted the way for a REST
architecture in health IT, simplified data models, and
scalable data exchange. This presentation will present the
current status of hData standards development and
implementation, and highlight the relationship of hData with
other recent projects, including IHE mobileHealth and HL7 FHIR.

Analysis
of healthcare ecosystems is often process based. A
complementary approach is to use a role based collaboration
and service perspective. The emerging VDML (Value Delivery
Modeling Language) and the recent SoaML (Service oriented
architecture Modeling Language) standards from OMG both uses
a role collaboration perspective, for the identification of
tangible and intangible value exchanges and for the analysis
of service collaboration and service contracts,
respectively. The presentation will provide insights
on a new way of looking at the innovation and design of
healthcare services with a focus on the creation and
exchange of values between participants that interoperate
through different roles in a healthcare ecosystem.

Standards
activities on Mobile Health
|
|
Keith W. Boone
Standards Architect
GE Healthcare |
|
|
This talk will discuss current standards activities in HL7
and IHE around Mobile Health. The session is targeted towards
developers of mHealth applications and standards. Upon
completion of this session attendees will understand:
- What activities are going on in IHE and HL7 that are
related to Mobile Health
- How to participate in these activities and where to
learn more about them.
- Where there may be opportunities for OMG to collaborate
with these organizations.

An
SOA Approach to Managing a Health Service Provider Directory
and its Use in Secure Message Exchange

The exchange of secure health information across
organization boundaries requires access to a reliable
directory of up-to-date healthcare service, and in many cases,
individual providers of those services. This presentation
shows how an SOA approach to managing a healthcare service
directory enables the discovery of information from web
portals and clinical applications, in order to facilitate
secure information exchange on a state-wide or national level.
The presentation will include a demonstration of discovery,
and transmission of secure information using the Human
Services Directory, now in operation across three states and
territories in Australia.

OMG's
Model
Driven Message Interoperability (MDMI) Standard in Healthcare
|
|
Ken Lord
CEO
FireStar Software |
|
|
There is no debate over whether healthcare information
should be exchanged. The issue is how the bar can be lowered
to enable low cost, high quality information exchange for the
entire healthcare community, from the largest to the smallest
organization. The Open Standards and Open Source communities
have repeatedly proven that the use of standards and open
source can drive down costs.
This presentation will focus the combination of OMG's Model
Driven Message Interoperability Standard (MDMI) and the
benefits of Model Driven Architecture. The presentation will
present a complete MDA framework for healthcare using OMG and
healthcare industry standards design to implementation;
starting with an Industry Standard model in UML tools and
ending with specific healthcare information being exchanged
between two different systems in a runtime environment. There
will be a software demonstration.
