Days Highlight Upcoming OMG Meeting
Standards in Software Modeling, Architecture-Driven Modernization
to Advance
at Meeting in Athens, Greece, April 11-15, 2005
Needham, MA – March 1, 2005 – Members of the Object Management Group ™(
OMG™; www.omg.org ) will meet in Athens,
Greece, from April 11 to 15, 2005, at a meeting hosted by Platinum Sponsor
Kennedy-Carter ( www.kc.com
) and Silver Sponsor Mentor Graphics (
www.mentor.com ), to
advance the organization's standards work and attend topical information
days and tutorials.
Space Software Standards Work and Information Day
The Space Domain standards organization Consultative Committee for Space
Data Systems (CCSDS) will meet co-located with OMG and its Space Domain Task
Force (Space DTF) for the entire week. On Monday afternoon, the two
organizations will meet in joint plenary for an information day with
presentations by each side on its technologies, scope, and goals.
Cooperative standards work coming out of this meeting will build on the
complementary strengths of the two organizations.
Enterprise Integration Information Day
On Wednesday, April 13, OMG’s Business Enterprise Integration (BEI) DTF will
host a day of presentations on interoperability standards in enterprise
computing. Following an introduction to the BEI DTF’s standards work in
interoperability and business process/business rules, the day will continue
with presentations from European companies and projects including Daimler
Chrysler, Airbus, FIAT, Athena IP, Interop NoE, CEN/ISSS, and others.
Modeling and Modernization Standards
OMG’s Analysis and Design Platform Task Force (PTF) will review draft
specifications for MOF 2.0 Queries, Views, and Transformations; MOF 2.0
Metadata Versioning and Development Lifecycle Management; and MOF 2.0
Facility and Object Lifecycle Operations. The Architecture-Driven
Modernization PTF will review a draft specification for a Knowledge
Discovery Metamodel.
Software Infrastructure Standards Work
The Middleware and Related Services PTF will review revised draft
specifications for Quality of Service (QoS) for CORBA® Components, Streams
for CORBA Components, and a UML® Profile for Voice-Based Applications. The
Real-Time, Embedded, and Specialized Systems PTF will review revised draft
specifications for High Performance Enablers and Reliable Ordered Multicast.
If these drafts meet member requirements, they will start the series of
votes leading to adoption as official OMG specifications.
Industry-Specific Domain Standards Work
The Business Enterprise Integration Domain Task Force (DTF) will review a
revised draft of a proposed standard for Business Semantics of Business
Rules. The Life Science Research DTF will review a revised draft
specification for a Gene Expression Query Service. And finally, the Space
DTF will review initial draft specifications for a Space Monitor and Control
Service, in addition to holding their co-located meetings with CCSDS.
OMG Tutorials, FastStart Seminar, and Sponsor Presentations
Five tutorials will survey and highlight OMG specifications and technology
areas, including a “Survey of OMG Specifications”, “Introduction to UML
2.0”, “The Model Driven Architecture® (MDA®)”, “Introduction to OMG’s
Architecture-Driven Modernization Specifications”, and “Introduction to
OMG’s Real-time Specifications”. OMG’s MDA FastStart program will present a
half-day seminar on Monday afternoon. Meeting platinum sponsor Kennedy
Carter and silver sponsor Mentor Graphics will speak at a plenary session on
Wednesday, April 13.
Open and freely available, OMG specifications have been implemented by
many vendors, universities, and other groups. In Athens on Tuesday and
Wednesday, a number of implementors will display their products at a central
demonstration area.
UML Certification Examinations
Attendees may take OMG’s UML Certification examinations during the meeting
week at a site near the meeting hotel. Attendees will receive a €18 (about
US$30) discount on tests taken in Athens during the meeting week. No
pre-registration is necessary. For more information about the certification
program, see
www.omg.org/uml-certification.
This meeting description is based on preliminary information. OMG Task
Forces will finalize their agendas for the meeting during the week of March
28th and post them at
www.omg.org/agendas.
CREATE Co-located Meeting
CREATE, the Crisis Response Executive Advisory Team co-chaired by former
President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari and OMG CEO Dr. Richard Soley, will
meet on Wednesday, all day. The two-year-old CREATE work has recently spun
off a new activity to define standards for information-sharing between
governments, with inter-governmental organizations such as the UN and OSCE,
and with relevant non-governmental organizations. This one-day meeting will
initiate planning for new standards, updates to existing standards, and
prototyping activities to be carried out by OMG's C4I Task Force and the IT
& Crisis Management project.

About The OMG
With well-established standards covering software from design and
development, through deployment and maintenance, and extending to evolution
to future platforms, the Object Management Group (OMG) supports a
full-lifecycle approach to enterprise integration which maximizes ROI, the
key to successful IT. OMG's standards cover multiple operating systems,
programming languages, middleware and networking infrastructures, and
software development environments. OMG's Modeling standards, the basis for
the MDA, include the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Common Warehouse
Metamodel (CWM). CORBA, the Common Object Request Broker Architecture, is
OMG's standard open platform with hundreds of millions of deployments
running today.
Headquartered in Needham, MA, USA, with a U.S. government representative in
Washington, DC, and international marketing representatives in Japan, the
UK, and Germany, the Object Management Group is an international, open
