the Symposia On Open Software & Standards Needham, MA, USA and Ottawa, Canada - April 10, 2008 - The Object Management Group™ (OMG™) and the Eclipse Foundation, which are jointly organizing two, one-day Symposia to promote and build on the partnership between Eclipse's open source software and OMG's open standards, are announcing the program for the second day of the event. The second day will be held during the OMG Technical Meeting in Ottawa, Canada on June 25, 2008. The Eclipse/OMG Symposium is a unique opportunity to participate in shaping the joint future of the Eclipse Open Source community and the OMG Open Specifications community. Day two of the event will be a full-day, workshop-style event, with a series of discussion sessions on corresponding OMG standards and Eclipse projects. The purpose is to discuss the alignment between current standard and implemented software, and identify areas where the cooperation could be further improved in the future. "I'm excited that the OMG and the Eclipse modeling community are working more closely together. The quality of the OMG's specifications benefit from well-tested, widely-used open-source implementations and the Eclipse community benefits from well-defined standards that ensure interoperability and speed adoption," said Ed Merks, Eclipse Modeling Project co-Lead. "This relationship will increase the momentum that's driving our shared vision for model driven development." Day two of the Symposium kicks off with opening remarks by Kenn Hussey, Program Manager, EA/Studio, Embarcadero Technologies, Inc., and Co-chair, Eclipse/OMG Symposia Program Committee. From there, experts will give overviews on many of the Eclipse projects that are based on OMG specifications. They will also provide examples of Eclipse implementations of OMG specifications. Topics include: Meta Object Facility (MOF™), UML® & Profiles, Queries/Views/Transformations (QVT), Object Constraint Language (OCL), and Ontology Definition Metamodel (ODM). Ed Merks, Eclipse Modeling Project Lead will provide closing remarks and will discuss next steps.
