OMG to Acquire Green Computing Impact Organization (GCIO)

Needham, MA, USA - December 11, 2008 - The Object Management Group™ (OMG™) today announced it will acquire the Green Computing Impact Organization, Inc. (GCIO). GCIO is a collaborative membership organization with a mission to promote and increase sustainability across all facets of the business. The membership works together on standardized definitions and measurements of sustainability, shares stories of lessons learned and successes, compares ROI and TCO metrics, develops educational and promotional material to drive sustainability throughout the enterprise business world. GCIO will work cooperatively with the OMG-managed SOA Consortium and BPM Consortium.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to help companies save money, reduce their dependence on resources such as power, paper, water, etc. and increase their sustainability through business IT," states Richard Mark Soley, Ph.D., chairman and CEO of OMG. "GCIO has led a movement to view green computing not just in the context of data centers and equipment, but as a vital role in an enterprises' business processes, management and operation. We believe this is crucial and GCIO will play a very important role in our strategic initiatives going forward."

Prior to the merger, GCIO and OMG already had a relationship for work on OMG's proposed Green Computing Maturity Model™ (GCMM™). GCMM will be a formal industry standard way to define, assess and monitor the sustainability of an organization across all aspects of the business. GCMM looks at all facets of the business such as facility management, corporate procurement / supply chain, governance, business processes, business operations and business data and provides a means for companies to model and measure their "green" maturity.

"OMG has a long history of bringing communities of business and IT leaders together to solve common problems and to advocate and promote important trends in the business IT community," said Karen D. Larkowski, founder and CEO of GCIO, Inc. "It was a natural fit for GCIO to join OMG in their important work and help propel the business IT community towards a sustainable future." Ms. Larkowski will continue to lead GCIO as well as provide leadership of the BPM Consortium as General Manager at OMG.
