TCS recognized by OMG as an important contributor in the development of standards for methods and tooling systems

Boston, MA | Mumbai – April 13, 2018 – The Object Management Group® (OMG®), an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, has recognized Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, has taken a leadership position to help in collaboratively establishing standards required for development of reusable business and information technology related methods and associated systems.

Bill Hoffman, President of Object Management Group (OMG) said, "TCS has played a leadership role in OMG to establish and enhance the OMG Essence™ standard, which intuitively describes the essential elements of software development and helps teams understand where they are, what's missing or what needs to be addressed. Essence is widely acclaimed as the main unification, composition and re-use enabling standard for methods & associated systems for large companies across many industries."

The OMG Methods & Related Tools Platform Special Interest Group (PSIG) is chaired by TCS Partner Sumeet Malhotra.  This PSIG provides a forum for end users of methods based on OMG standards, such as Essence, to discuss real-world practical issues during implementation of those methods so that feedback can be provided to the appropriate OMG task force responsible for the related standard. It is where methods related to software tools are officially evaluated and packages of comprehensive, re-usable, Essence based activity steps for different consulting competencies are defined The Methods and Related Tools PSIG also serves as a forum for any OMG member to suggest independent additions to the open-source test suites that evaluate software against features required for OMG standards-based methods.

Various industry agile leaders and major software companies have come together in an organization called SEMAT, under the Chairmanship of TCS, to enable establishment of OMG Essence as the standard for re-using required parts of all methods owned by those parties.

Krishnan Ramanujam, President Business and Technology Services, TCS said, "I am delighted to note the appreciation by OMG of the work that TCS has done to promote Methods and Tools Standards across the industry. TCS’s Methodology Program supports and helps deliver the strong business momentum in our service lines as we continue to cement our place as the partner of choice for our customers in their growth and transformation initiatives.”

TCS Transformation Delivery Method, an innovative method from Tata Consultancy Services, uniquely has a core that is a derivative of the Essence core and therefore provides an exclusive foundation for enabling any Essence standard based activity package to be leveraged with it.
