Dear BPMI Members,
As you know, the BPMI voted to merge its activities with
OMG, creating a single organization with wide sweeping
modeling expertise from technology up through business
modeling, business process execution and business rules,
across platforms and in over a dozen vertical markets. As
Chairman of the OMG, I am honored that you decided to take
this step, and I personally intend to make this a very
positive and successful step for both organizations.
For those of you whose companies are not yet OMG members,
please be aware that the agreement to merge the
organizations includes a credit of up to US$5,000 toward your
first year of OMG membership for BPMI members who become OMG
members for the first time by October 31, 2005. This is
equal to your entire BPMI dues last paid, even if you paid
them almost a year ago. Your OMG first-year membership may
actually not cost you anything more!
Even more importantly, joining OMG now will allow you to
participate in the crucial meeting in September, when the
direction of BPMI’s work within OMG is established.
Ken Berk ( OMG's Director of Business Development,
ken.berk@omg.org ) and
his team will be calling you over the next couple of weeks
to discuss your options and make sure you're aware of the
array of activities, meetings and workshops OMG has under
way, and how to participate (most importantly) in the
activities directly related to BPMI this September in
Atlanta. For those of you who are already OMG members, you
are already aware of all of the activities underway; if not,
please feel free to contact Ken and his team and they'll
fill you in!
Again, thank you for your hard work and vision over the
past five years, and thank you for your trust and vision in
the OMG moving forward. We will make the joint activities of
these two fine organizations better than either alone!
Best regards,
Richard Mark Soley, Ph.D. Chairman and CEO Object Management Group, Inc.

Why Join OMG:
The merged activities of OMG and BPMI will lead to an increase in the
viability of the Business Process, Business Modeling and Business Rules
specifications. Only OMG members will be able to influence the future
direction of these business process specifications. BPMI members are
invited to join OMG and continue the great work that has been done to
date.
There is one special reason for BPMI members to join OMG and
participate in the ongoing work – as an OMG member, you can get elected
to the BPMI Steering Committee, which will provide Business Process
Management thought leadership and expertise for the entire industry
through education programs, public advocacy, and advice to the combined
BPM standards work at OMG.
As part of the merger, OMG will maintain and promote BPMI’s
specifications and other intellectual property within the OMG process.
All specifications work will be done within an OMG Task Force comprising
current OMG BEI Task Force members and members of BPMI (both those who
are already OMG members and those who join OMG). The new Task Force will
be subject to OMG Policies and Procedures.
OMG will maintain BPMI’s URLs and the contents of its website. OMG
will also promote the BPMI brand as part of our marketing of OMG’s
activities.
The big kickoff event will be at the OMG Technical Meeting in
Atlanta, GA on September 12-16, 2005 -
http://www.omg.org/registration/registration-info.htm. At this
meeting, decisions will be made by the Task Force about the way in which
BPMI’s work will be continued, whether the Task Force’s name should be
changed to reflect the addition of BPMI’s activities, and who will lead
the Task Force and the Steering Committee. There will also be a BPM
Information Day at this meeting. All companies that are OMG members at
that time can participate in the Task Force, make their voice heard and
vote on these important issues. BPMI members that have not joined OMG
before the meeting will not be able to participate in the kick-off and
influence the future direction of BPMI’s work.
How to join:
The merger agreement between OMG and BPMI provides your Company with
a US$5,000 credit towards your first year OMG membership.
Typically, companies joining OMG in order to develop and promote a
technology that is important to them have chosen to join at the Domain
or Contributing level, in order to get the maximum benefit of their
membership and the ability to be deeply involved in the current and
future OMG activities that are important to them. At the Domain or
Contributing level, you can participate and vote in the Task Force, be
elected to the BPMI Steering Committee, submit technologies to the Task
Force, and serve on OMG’s Board of Directors and Architecture Board.
Lower level members lose any opportunity to submit technologies and many
of the other opportunities, depending on their level. (click

We would be glad to discuss this further with you and see how we can
make the transition to OMG very simple for you. Please do not hesitate
to contact Kenneth Berk, Director of Business Development at
ken.berk@omg.org.
