Thank you all for sharing your memories here. It's great to read perspectives on my father about him in the domain in his life I knew the least about.

I will always think of meeting with Tom at 0730 on the Tuesday of each OMG Quarterly Technical Meeting for the Liaison Subcommittee. Very few people could motivate me to talk about International Standards so early in the morning. Tom was also very active in ISO-IEC/JTC1. I'll miss his positive contributions.

As a member of the AB Tom always provided valuable advice and direction to make sure that the specs we were developing were of the highest quality. He was always professional, but when appropriate he was always fun. A peaceful farewell.

Even though I only knew Tom through work with OMG (well, and occasionally OMG-related partying!), I really felt he was a friend, not just a colleague. I think a lot of people felt that way. As a colleague, you always wanted to be sure to listen to what he had to say. As a friend, you just enjoyed talking with him -- or listening to him jam!

I first met Tom when he and I worked together at Bell Labs - he in OSI/CMIP and me in OMG. There are a few people with which you can have the most heated of technical debates and yet walk away from them the best of friends. Tom was one of those guys! I finally won him over to the OMG camp where he contributed to the technology in oh so many ways. We worked together for over 10 years. I was therefore thrilled when I discovered that he was at the IIC. Our last meeting (at the IIC), for me, was like coming home to old friends. So grateful I had the opportunity to meet him one more time just wish it wasn't the last. Farewell my friend!

I met Tom when I interviewed at AT&T Labs in the Summer of 1995. I was fresh out of grad school where I had worked on mapping GDMO to C++. Tom was working on mapping GDMO to IDL at the time and he's the only person to date who ever showed any interest in my MSc memoir. He told the hiring manager to hire me right away because he needed me for an upcoming standards meeting.

I started working in his team at AT&T Labs just a handful of weeks before the split with Lucent and while the team stayed with AT&T, Tom went with Lucent instead. We worked together for only a very short time, but he left a big impression.

I have known Tom for 19 years, meeting him at the 1996 Hyannis TC meeting the very first time. It has always been a privilege to work with him through countless meetings in the Architecture Board, the Board of Directors, the Liaison Subcommittee, the Specification Management Subcommittee, or Tom being submitter or co-submitter on so many submissions and specifications. I should, of course, mention all the CORBA Jam sessions and jam sessions in all sorts of hotel rooms in countries across the globe. We shared a handful of drinks at the bar during all these years but also met in the gym early in the morning. I very fondly remember the evening we spent bar-hopping last September in Austin, listening to live music and him chatting up a storm with some of those musicians. We at OMG lose a true professional, and a great friend.

Farewell Tom, I will truly miss you !!
