14:00-15:00  DLT Fundamentals: Education, Concepts, Vocabulary

Educational session on basic principles that make up a DLT protocol. This follows the Interoperability RFI finding of the need to define common semantics for DLTs. The session is a mix of explanation and discussion. The aim is to understand the concepts, formalize those concepts to a first approximation (semantics), and have the basis for a working vocabulary following the VCoI principles (Concept centric definitions with contextual words and terms definitions).

Items we expect to cover:

  • Basics - ledgers, nodes, ecosystem features (oracles etc.)
  • Layered protocol / architecture descriptions - latest outlines from IEEE, OMG and elsewhere and possibly work to refine these, define the semantics of layers
  • Cryptography - what are hashes, SHA-3, sponge, public key cryptography etc. all about and how are they used in different parts of DLT? (signing versus encrypting / decrypting etc.)
  • Layer 2 protocols: smart contracts, messaging etc and how they fit in
  • What about the money? Cryptocurrencies (with feedback from FDTF Digital Currency work

− How should we deliver ontologies for use by the OMG community (convenience zip file, more sophisticated portal, is a login really needed? …)
