Object Management Group Issues RFI for Secure Network Communications Standard
Modernizes DoD Software Communication Architecture Standard

Needham, MA – November 20, 2017 – The Object Management Group® (OMG®), an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, held its quarterly Technical Meeting from September 25-29 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Platform Technical Committee issued a request for information (RFI) for a Secure Network Communications standard.

The purpose of this RFI is to explore interest in new technology and modeling techniques for the Software Based Communications  (SBC) standard, previously titled the Software Communication Architecture (SCA) standard. This standard was originally developed for the Department of Defense Joint Tactical Radio System for the next generation of radio systems. OMG is looking to modernize this standard and build commercial adoption. This effort is being led by the OMG Secure Networking Communications (SNC) Working Group (WG) to modernize the standard with cybersecurity and networking capabilities, parametric SysML® models, automated software code generation and High Performance Embedded Computing standard toolboxes.

One of the RFI authors and OMG member Jeffrey Smith, Ph.D., Chief Systems Engineer and E2 Lead at Multi Agency Collaboration Environment, Sierra Nevada Corporation said, “Participants will be on the forefront of drafting a new standard that will evolve SCA in technology domains such as space and robotics through their contributions in wireless networks, and terrestrial and space communications and networking capabilities. The OMG SNC WC will discuss this RFI at the upcoming member meeting in Burlingame, California from Dec. 4 - 8 and at its March 19 - 23 meeting in Reston, Virginia.”

Responses are due no later than February 19, 2018. Send email to [email protected] in ODF (ISO/IEC 26300), PDF (ISO 32000), ISO Latin-1 (ISO/IEC 8859-1) or MS Word .doc files with the name and OMG document number of the RFI to which you are responding.

For more information about the SBC specification, there is a UML Profile For Software Radio data sheet on the OMG website.
