The Object Management Group and the Healthcare Services Platform Consortium Announce Collaboration Agreement

SCOTTSDALE, Az. and NEEDHAM, Ma. — February 23, 2018 — The Object Management Group ® (OMG®), an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium and the Healthcare Services Platform Consortium (HSPC), a provider-led, not-for-profit fostering industry-wide collaboration for the development of an open ecosystem of interoperable applications, content, and Service Oriented Architecture services, today announced an agreement to actively collaborate on development of SOA standards.
The collaboration will focus on the following objectives and goals:

  • Develop SOA standards to be applied in healthcare
  • Bring healthcare industry and clinical expertise and experience to OMG standards development
  • Provide demonstration settings and reference implmentation of OMG standards
  • Promote the adoption of OMG standards in healthcare

“OMG is excited to extend our healthcare reach and footprint through the relationship with HSPC. The OMG suite of healthcare standards, based upon model-driven architecture, provides a foundation to extend systems beyond institutional boundaries. Together both consortia will leverage each other’s strengths to bring technology standards to the healthcare IT community and to promote their adoption into the mainstream,” says Dr. Richard Soley, Chairman and CEO of OMG.

“As a provider-led community, HSPC brings a valuable perspective to the industry and to the OMG work.  Through joint collaboration, this relationship has the potential to help HSPC realize our vision of truly interoperable health platforms supporting the best in wellness and patient care. The architectural and technical expertise of OMG complements the work of HSPC, and has the potential to advance the healthcare interoperability goals of both organizations,”  says Oscar Diaz, CEO HSPC.

About the Healthcare Services Platform Consortium (HSPC)
HSPC is a provider led, not-for-profit, multi-stakeholder, membership organization that is fostering an industry-wide collaborative for the development of an open ecosystem of interoperable applications, content, and services. As part of the development of the healthcare SOA, HSPC is creating a federated model for multi-vendor RESTful web services modeled against HL7 FHIR and HSPC/CIMI/CEM based profiles.

Similar to iOS and Android, HSPC will upport a marketplace model for plug-and-play healthcare applications leveraging the work at Intermountain Healthcare, LSU Health, the VA VistA Evolution initiative and others.  The HSPC marketplace will support common services and models that providers and vendors can use to shorten development life cycles.

The SOA for healthcare will enable multiple collaborators to deliver different parts of a solution set that address workflow gaps within and between systems. This platform supports high-fidelity workflow models that support acute, ambulatory and patient-centered medical home models.
