2010 Summary

2010 has been a busy year for OMG. In addition to issuing thirteen RFPs, RFIs and RFCs, close to 40 specifications were finalized, including Clinical Decision Support Service, BPMN 2.0 and UPDM to name a few. OMG has been growing in popularity through our Facebook fan page, Twitter accounts for both OMG and the Business Ecology Initiative, and has been active on LinkedIn, including holding post-event discussions.

OMG has always been active in the greater standards and advocacy community through liaison relationships with a variety of industry groups. In 2010, OMG expanded its relationship with the Wireless Innovation Forum, became a steward for the new Process Knowledge Initiative and held successful events in partnership with HL7 International, Eclipse Foundation and is working with ACORD to validate its Open Mapping Standard through OMG's Model Driven Message Interoperability (MDMI) Labs. Speaking of MDMI, the specification is being implemented in the healthcare industry at the Southeast Michigan Health Information Exchange (SEMHIE). OMG’s software quality efforts also continued in 2010 through its partnership with the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon in the Consortium for Information & Software Quality (CISQ). The meeting in India in June of this year was a huge success, and plans for additional meetings are in the works.

OMG has several certification programs and in 2010 was proud to launch the first two exams for our new OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional™ (OCSMP™) exam series. Existing OMG certification programs continued to garner strong interest, XX candidates were awarded certification for OCUP™ for UML® Modelers, OCEB™ for BPM Practitioners, and OCRES™ for Real-time and Embedded Systems Developers. In total, candidates passed 1,227 certification exams in 2010.

OMG’s Business Ecology Initiative® built momentum during 2010, with the Communities of Practice (CoP) holding several events and webcasts. The BPM/SOA CoP in particular continued to have very active involvement through its four working groups, which hold conference calls on a regular basis while working on a variety of papers and projects. A list of these working groups calls, along with sign-up information, is available online.
