FULL-DAY MODERNIZATION WORKSHOP
The one-day ADM Modernization Workshop gives modernization practitioners an in-depth introduction to the tools and disciplines required to successfully conduct an architecture driven modernization project. Using a dozen case studies as examples the workshop shows how modernization projects are justified based on ROI analysis and conducted by cross-disciplinary to minimize risk and maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
Today automated modernization projects are being conducted in months to migrate large-scale complex mission critical systems to the most advanced computing environments with ROIs that deliver 60% to 80% reductions in annual software and hardware cost of ownership. Geared towards CIOs, CTOS and Program Managers this workshop equips forward-thinking modernization practitioners with the tools they need to successfully assemble the tools and teams, define the project schedule and milestone deliverables, define metrics to measure progress at every step and to maximize value by establishing governance and project coordination processes and procedures that have been tried and proven.
Every workshop participant will receive a complimentary book: Information System Modernization: Architecture Driven Modernization Case Studies, by Ulrich and Newcomb, 2010, Morgan-Kauffman (OMG Series), signed by the presenter and author along with an in-depth interactive structured project planning workbook to allow practitioners to rapidly define modernization projects of any size, scale and complexity. The workshop is structured into segments that focus upon how OMG modernization scenarios are combined to structure and successfully conduct complex legacy modernization projects. This workshop builds upon the best-practice theory and standards of the OMG Modernization Summit and demonstrates how theory becomes best practice by focusing on the ground breaking projects that made large scale mission-critical modernization projects, such as those listed below so highly successful:
- TopSky – provides Air Traffic Control Operations in 40% of airports worldwide
- Standard Base Supply System (SBSS) – provides Air Force logistics worldwide
- Milstar Satellite – provides satellite command, control and communications
- P3 Orion Acoustic Processing System - deployed in oceans worldwide
- Healthcare Insurance Corporation of Illinois Bluestar – largest US insurance provider
- Rail Road Retirement Board Benefits program - largest retirement program in US
- And many more…
Armed with knowledge, organizations seeking to systematically modernize their legacy systems can confidently undertake modernization projects, and even establish modernization centers of excellence to enable information system modernization to become a repeatable process.
This highly audience-engaged interactive workshop is led by Mr. Philip Newcomb, the Co-Chair of the ADM Task Force and recipient of the 2011 IEEEE Stevens Award for his leadership of project that modernized European Air Traffic Control system (Topsky). Mr Newcomb's leadership in this field spans 40 years. He has led or overseen the conduct of more than 200 modernization projects.
