As a companion program to our Tuesday Morning MBSE-inspired EA Summit, we hope you will join Object Management Group® (OMG®) Tuesday Afternoon, September 25th at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Ottawa City Centre, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for our complimentary Tutorial Sessions. This program will introduce Unified Architecture Framework® v1.0 and explore how to leverage MBSE with architecture modeling in an integrated and disciplined approach, enabling the modernization of systems of systems. This features the creation of architecture from A to Z, combining both theory and practice. Lifecycle work will be discussed, along with ways to make use of UAF® to speed up system development by looking at complex system of systems and use UAF to analyze the interactions.

Topics to Include:

  • UAF 101
  • Applying UAF: A SysML/UAF Comparison
  • How to Make Use of UAF to Speed up Systems Development
  • Using the UAF Model TVR (Threat, Vulnerability and Risk) for the Model Oriented Development Environment (MODE) Automation of Assessment and Authorization (AAA)

AGENDA

time presentation
13:30-15:00

UAF 101
Aurelijus Morkevicius, Ph.D. - Head of Solutions, No Magic, Inc., and OMG UAF Co-Chair

This tutorial introduces a brand new Unified Architecture Framework® v1.0 and explores how to leverage MBSE with architecture modeling in an integrated and disciplined approach, enabling the modernization of systems of systems. Tutorial is based on an industry case-study and features the creation of architecture from A to Z, combining both theory and practice.

The session presents a straightforward and easy-to-understand modeling process for the key UAF domains - covering strategy, operational, personnel and resources, project, and security. It also covers traceability all the way through to produce an integrated model, which can later be used for various engineering analysis, like trade-offs, what-if analysis, behavioral simulation, etc.
15:00-15:30 Afternoon Refreshment Break
15:30-16:00

More Than One Way to Skin a Framework
Graham Bleakley, Ph.D. - Principal Consultant, Systems Engineering & Architecture Frameworks, IBM and OMG UAF Co-Chair

This presentation will provide an introduction to the underlying information model and patterns that exist in the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) and how the various UAF domains are related. The talk will be extended with an example of the felxibility of the framework describing how it can be "skinned" to represent other frameworks to architect commercial systems of systems applications involving the IOT/IIOT such as a Smart City or Autonomous driving.

16:00-16:45

SAR Example
Lars-Olof Kihlström - Principal Consultant, Syntell AB

This presentation describes a UAF representation of a large system of systems based on the example provided by NATO for SAR collaboration between three countries. It contains a model to be used by the coordinting organisation established by the three countries and focuses on the model of the combined enterprise that it needs as well as the service purchases that it has to manage for all three countries spread out over an extended period of time.
