"Semantics -- Crossing the Chasm" Workshop to Take Place in Reston, VA
Will focus on the finance and healthcare industries

Needham, MA- 02-06-2014-The Object Management Group® (OMG®) is pleased to present the "Semantics - Crossing the Chasm" Workshop, on Wednesday, March 26th at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, VA. This one-day workshop will stress the importance of standards and semantics across corporate and regulatory landscapes, with breakout tracks focusing on the use of semantics in both the finance and healthcare industries.

The event will begin with an introduction to semantic standards in both regulatory and corporate landscapes. Attendees will then divide into two separate tracks that will focus on either the finance or healthcare industry. Attendees of the Finance Track will learn more about the OMG Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO) standard while attendees of the Healthcare Track will discuss the application of W3C linked data standards to enable web scale connected health. The day will then end with all attendees joining together to summarize the results of the day in a panel discussion.

"The title of this session is based on the title of the Geoffrey Moore book where his thesis is that to be successful, products must cross the chasm from early adopters to the mainstream of buyers," said Dennis Wisnosky, retired DoD CTO and Chief Architect and current Senior Consultant at the EDM Council. "Semantic technology has been in development for nearly two decades. Its acceptance as the standard for data exchange healthcare certainly proves that it has crossed the chasm in that domain. On March 26th, noted authorities in both healthcare and finance will describe this journey and point the direction for even more progress."

The registration fee for the event is $199 USD and is open to both OMG members and interested nonmembers. To view the full agenda and to register, visit https://www.omg.org/sem-va-14
